When a Hurricane Watch is Issued for Our Area
- Inform the MTN office of your plans during the hurricane i.e. where you will be staying, emergency contact information, etc.
- Obtain a Re-Entry Permit from the Palm Beach Shores Police Department.
- Check often for official bulletins on radio, TV, or NOAA Weather Radio
- Fuel car
- Stock up on canned provisions
- Check supplies of special medicines and drugs. Inform the Maintenance Supervisor of medications that may need refrigeration.
- Check batteries for radio and flashlights
- Secure lawn furniture and other loose material outdoors. Remove ALL items from balconies.
- Board or shutter windows to prevent shattering
- Wedge sliding glass doors to prevent their lifting from their tracks
- Out of town owners should coordinate with a local resident (other than MTN maintenance personnel) to ready his/her apartment prior to a storm.
When a Hurricane Warning is Issued for Our Area
…and you plan to stay in the building:
- Inform the MTN office of your plans during the hurricane i.e. where you will be staying, emergency contact information, etc.
- Leave areas which might be affected by storm tide or stream flooding. *Obey mandatory evacuation instructions.
- Stay turned to radio, TV, or NOAA Weather Radio for official bulletins
- Board up porch doors
- Move valuables to a safe place
- Fill containers (bathtub) with several days supply of drinking water
- Turn up refrigerator to maximum cold and don’t open unless necessary
- Use phone only for emergencies
- Stay indoors on the downwind side of building away from windows
- Beware of the eye of the hurricane
…and you plan to leave the building:
- Inform the MTN office of your plans during the hurricane i.e. where you will be staying, emergency contact information, etc.
- Leave areas which might be affected by storm tide or stream flooding. *Obey mandatory evacuation instructions.
- Board up porch doors
- Move valuables to a safe place
- Follow the instruction for closing an apartment as described in the Rules and Regulations
- Leave early in daylight, if possible
- Shut off the main water valve
- Take small valuables and papers but travel light
- Lock up house
- Drive carefully to nearest designated shelter using recommended evacuation routes.
After the All-Clear is Given
- Drive carefully; watch for dangling electrical wires, undermined roads, flooded low spots
- Don’t sight-see
- Report broken or damaged water, sewer, and electrical lines
- Use caution re-entering home
- Check for gas leaks
- Check food and water for spoilage
- Out of town owners should contact a local resident (other than MTN maintenance personnel) to check on their apartment.
* Remember, when the authorities issue a mandatory evacuation, this DOES NOT mean they will force you to leave. However, it does mean that in the event of a medical emergency, the authorities will NOT come and rescue you. Emergency personnel will NOT answer 911 calls from a mandatory evacuation zone.
